September Newsletter 2026 Part Two
Waterlooville Men's Shed
6. On a lighter note, you may have noticed that the ex-servicemen amongst us quite often will regale those present of far-fetched stories over a ‘wet’ (drink) in the galley. Well that is known as ‘Swinging the lamp’ and evokes the image of sharing tales under the light of a swinging oil lamp. This expression emphasizes camaraderie and the importance of sharing experiences amongst service members. I thought that a real lamp should be made available for just this reason. Also, after the tremendous work by Peter Sanders and his trusty team on the lighting and electrics I thought a lamp that could provide emergency light would kill two birds with one stone as it has a LED light incorporated. At the August BBQ it was presented to our chairman. It was a little tongue in cheek but will provide a serious source of light, should there be a problem in the future. The picture on the right shows it in action with the now additional Port & Stbd colours!
